Inspiring Others Changing Lives
Since retirement from sport, Carol has worked as a motivational speaker in schools, inspiring children to take part in sport. This work uses her own experiences to encourage children to engage in a sport that they enjoy, go after their dreams and work hard to achieve their goals. Carol has made a huge impact to young people’s lives and raising aspirations whilst working on the Sporting Champions programme, and is now looking to inspire your audience by sharing her secret of what it takes to be the best version of yourself!
“The Sainsbury’s School Games use the Legacy of London 2012 to get more school children involved in competitive sport. Carol is a brilliant ambassador for sport and has truly inspiring stories to tell.” Claire Elliot, Merseyside Tyne and Wear Sport
“Carol's attendance at the Merseyside School Games Winter Festival Gymnastics had a clear and positive impact on the children competing. As well as demonstrating what sporting excellence looks like and giving many of the children something tangible to aspire to she also demonstrated how sport can help you to learn and apply broader life skills and strategies, something that will have been pertinent to each and every one of the children attending."Kerry Stewart, Strategic Lead for Business Improvement, Merseyside Sports Partnership
"Carol's involvement in the event was excellent. She offered an interactive, hands-on style that brought her sporting achievements to life for the children, bringing photos, medals and clothing worn during world-class competitions with her for the children to see. I believe every child will have left the event feeling they had had the chance to meet someone really important, lending a real sense of occasion to this Level 3 event."Gabby McGartland, Centre Manager, St Helens Centre for Gymnastic / Organiser of the 2016 Merseyside School Games L3 competition.
From a very young age, Carol spent more time upside down than the right way up! For safety reasons her parents took her along to a recreational gymnastics class where she could channel her energy. Being a very stubborn individual, Carol had the determination to never give up until she mastered a skill and this progressed her through the sport. Carol is former British and Northern European champion and represented GB for 5 years; her highest achievement being reserve member for the 2004 Olympic Games GB squad and competing at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
After retiring from Gymnastics in 2006, Carol set her sights on competing in another Commonwealth Games, but this time as a 10m platform diver. British Diving placed her on a fast track programme, which in 2 1/2 years not only saw her become national champion but also bronze medalist at the 2009 European Championships. She was also part of the first pair in the world to perform a synchronised handstand dive in international competition. Carol and her synchro partner Helen (her twin sister) achieved their goal of qualifying for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, but unfortunately due to injury the girls had to watch the event.
Carol worked on the Sporting Champions programme helping to make an impact to young people’s lives and raise aspirations, and is now looking to inspire your audience by sharing her secret of what it takes to be the best you can be!
