Stephen Miller MBE has represented Great Britain in Paralympic sport for over 25 years, embodying the spirit of resilience and determination that defines the nation’s athletic prowess.
Stephen’s journey with the Club Throw event began at the tender age of ten, when he first encountered it at a weekly school sports club. Remarkably, by the age of 16, he had already clinched gold at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics. Throughout his illustrious career, he has graced the stage of six Paralympic Games, seven World Championships, and seven European Championships, amassing an impressive haul of 34 international medals.
A true titan in his field, Stephen secured three consecutive Paralympic titles at Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, and Athens 2004. His dominance was further underscored by his 11-year reign as the holder of the F32 Club Throw world record, from 1997 to 2008.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to sport, Stephen was bestowed with an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List of 2016. But his dedication extends far beyond the field of competition. Actively engaged with the community, Stephen regularly visits schools, sports clubs, community groups, and businesses, driven by a fervent desire to inspire others to embrace a positive mindset and seize the most out of life.
In 2013, Stephen founded SMILE Through Sport, a charitable organization committed to merging disability sport development activities with training and education programs. With a noble aim to enable more disabled individuals to partake in the joys of sport, the charity stands as a testament to Stephen’s enduring commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
